Postage design contest to mark Accession Day

DUBAI - Emirates Post's Postal Stamp Design Competition for college and university students to mark the 37th anniversary of the accession of the President, His Highness Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, as Ruler of Abu Dhabi has attracted more than 100 entries from all over the UAE.

Students from all leading UAE colleges, including Zayed University, American University of Sharjah, Men's College of Abu Dhabi, Ajman University, Men's College of Sharjah, Women's College of Sharjah and Sharjah University, took part in the competition by submitting their designs,

The entries will be assessed by a jury consisting of Abdulrahim Salem, Head of artistic and cultural activities, Ministry of Education and Youth, and officials from the Philately Section of Emirates Post.

The two best entries will be used to issue stamps on Accession Day on August 6, 2003. The two winners will also receive a cash prize of Dh5,000 each. All other participants will receive certificates of appreciation.

This is the first time that the competition was limited to college and university students.

In the previous years, the competition was open to school students.

As a result, Emirates Post has received high quality designs from college students from all over the country.

In order to generate wider interest in the competition, Emirates Post had made arrangements for distribution of leaflets at all colleges and universities explaining the rules and conditions of the competition.
