Speaking to Khaleej Times yesterday, the official said each device would have its own user name and password. He said the device aims at detecting practices at facilities that violate labour laws and regulations and ensuring fast and easy inspection at different facilities.

“The new equipment will include a list of questions about each and every facility requiring a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer. The inspector has to reply to these questions on the spot and then press ‘send’ button where a report about the targeted facility will be sent to the Inspection Department at the ministry,” said the official. He noted that the device has the potential to store all details about targeted firms.

The built-in camera will enable the inspectors to grab images of sites of the facilities they are sceptical about, he added, noting that some facilities provide the department with dodgy reports about the actual businesses these companies are practising. “The portable device will be available for inspectors following completion of the setting up of electronic units at inspection departments of labour offices throughout the country,” said the official.

He said the new advanced system , which will contain information about the location of the companies, business partners, number of employees, and adopted occupational safety measures of the targeted companies, requires co-ordination with several institutions in the country, like Etisalat.
