DUBAI — A police corporal stood trial in the Court of First Instance on accusation of forging sick leave certificates and attributing them to Sharjah’s Kuwaiti Hospital.
The 22-year-old corporal allegedly presented forged sick leave certificates to his superiors at the Dubai Police General Department with the intention of staying away from work.
A police lieutenant told the investigators that he came to know about the defendant reporting sick frequently.
“I was asked to verify the authenticity of the leaves and for that I addressed the Kuwaiti Hospital in Sharjah.”
The lieutenant said the hospital set up a committee to examine the matter.
“They found out that the documents were forged and the hospital did not have any record of the defendant, coinciding with the dates of the leaves.”
When the defendant was confronted in the light of the hospital’s response, he insisted that he did not commit any forgery. “He did admit, though, to forging a sick leave certificate issued by the Sharjah Medical Centre by changing the leave’s duration from one day to one week. He said he was prosecuted by his administration for that.”
