Poetry session organised

DUBAI — On the occasion of the 14th anniversary of late Shaikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the Rashid Pediatric Therapy Centre yesterday organised a poetry session under the patronage of Shaikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairwoman of Dubai Women's Club, at Mina Al Salam Hotel.

The session was attended by several prominent personalities representing Arab consulates in Dubai, government departments and media firms.

In her opening speech, Rajaa Al Girr, Director of Dubai Women's Club, said: "Late Shaikh Rashid had a far-sighted impact on the educational and economic projects in Dubai, and few people have left such an impressive touch as he has. He was the universal father and played an important role in uniting the country with the President, His Highness Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Shaikh Rashid believed in the future and his plans were to build a modern and sophisticated Dubai. His dreams came true and it is evident in the Jebel Ali Port and Dubai Airport."

In the beginning of the session, a recorded poem by General Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and UAE Defence Minister, was played in the memory of his father. Ali Salem Al Kaabi, Director of His Highness UAE's President Office, presented three poems about Dubai and a joint poem praising Shaikh Rashid and Shaikh Zayed. Other poets such as Arif Al Shaikh, Shihab Ghanem, Tarek Haddad, Saif Al Saadi, Mahmoud Noor also participated in the poem recitation.

During the session, a documentary was shown on the accomplishments of late Shaikh Rashid in Dubai. Also Abdullah Bel Kheir gave a speech and recited an incident he shared with late Shaikh Rashid.
