In his lawsuit, Salim Rashid, demanded the Abu Dhabi Sharia Court to order the heirs of his uncle to return the plot of land which houses a villa today.

He said that he had borrowed Dh200,000 from his uncle and offered the plot as collateral as per a registered mortgage contract. He also told the court that he had paid back his debt, and that ahead of the set due date and signed a contract for redemption which was also registered, but his uncle and then his heirs didn't return the plot.

Upon rejection of his case by the Abu Dhabi Sharia Court, he moved to the Sharia Court of Appeal which upheld the earlier verdict.
