Brigadier Nasser Al Khiribani, Director-General of the Interior Minister’s office, said the integrated centre would offer specialised physiotherapy for the victims plus comprehensive medical, psychological, social, vocational and recreational rehabilitation at par with the most advanced centres in the world.
He said the idea had the blessings of the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and was on the directives of Lt.-General Shaikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior.
“The goal is to ease the suffering of both national and exaptriate victims of road accidents. Instead of travelling abroad for treatment for long periods and spending huge amount of money, the victims can have all these services in the UAE.” he said.
The revenue from a series of auctions of vehicle number plates being conducted by Abu Dhabi Police would be dedicated to set up the centre, the first of its kind in the region.
Al Khiribani said the Minister of Interior had formed a committee under the chairmanship of Nasser Khalifa Al Bedour, Assistant Under-Secretary for Foreign Relations and International Health, Ministry of Health, and Lt. Colonel Abdul Rahman Al Kamali, Director of Privatisation and Financial Investment, Abu Dhabi Police, to oversee the implementation of the pilot project.
