The Ras Al Khaimah Police have rescued seven tourists after their yacht stopped working in the middle of the sea. The yacht was about to sink due to the rough sea, when the tourists, who sustained minor injuries, were saved. One of the tourists - an Asian - fell into the sea as high waves battered the vessel.

The police received the tourists' distress calls off Al Arab Port at 7.30pm on Friday. The six Europeans and an Asian - aged between 30 and 40 years - were on a cruise when their vessel stalled.

Brigadier Abdullah Khamis Al Hadidi, acting general commander of the Ras Al Khaimah Police, said: "The police's instant and professional response helped save the lives of the tourists whose boat was about to sink."

Brigadier Mohammed Saeed Al Humaid, director general of the central operations room, said the police gave first-aid to the panicked tourists "who were slightly injured". They were then shifted to the coast safely. "The rescue mission was accomplished despite the unstable weather conditions."

The officer urged tourists and residents to check the weather conditions before setting out on a cruise.
