Photography contest for students with focus on environment

ABU DHABI — Students of Zayed University’s Abu Dhabi Campus College of Communication and Media Sciences on October 14 launched an ‘Environment Photography Competition Award’ for undergraduate students of universities and higher education institutes in the UAE under the theme of ‘Environment and Development Integration Not Collision’.

The environment photography competition will aim at promoting the preservation of environment in the country. The competition was launched by Zayed University (ZU) students as part of their project in cooperation with the Environment Agency, Abu Dhabi to raise awareness on environmental issues and providing students with the opportunities of helping authorised organisations to find solutions to environmental problems.

The competition is open to all national and expatriate students pursuing undergraduate courses in the country. The last date for submission of forms for taking part in the competition is November 15.

The environment photography competition is being organised under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and chairman of Environment Agency, Abu Dhabi. “We encourage students to be innovative,” said, Dr Sulaiman Al Jassim, vice-president of ZU.

The competition includes two categories. The first is the single photograph competition which allows participants to submit one single photograph expressing the theme. This photo should embody an important message on the relationship between the environment and humans. The second category is a series of photographs which allow participants to submit up to three photos to communicate one story. This series of conceptual and related photos should offer the viewer an insight into the world of environment.

The prizes for single photo and series photo categories will be Dh12,000 for first, Dh6,000 for second and Dh4,000 for third positions.
