Philippine National Police Chief Ronald Dela Rosa released his official statement today after a police vehicle seen running over protestors in front of the United States Embassy in Manila yesterday.
The police chief expressed his deepest sympathies for those that got hurt and in the vernacular he said: "Ayaw na ayaw ko na may masasaktan na Pilipino" (I never want to see any Filipino get hurt). He also said that while he is deeply saddened by the turn of events, he as a police chief must look at the situation squarely and deal with it "swiftly and decisively".
Dela Rosa has also stated that a full review and investigation of the occurrence is well underway and any personnel found guilty will be facing necessary sanctions for putting the lives of citizens at risk. The officers involved in the operation have also been given administrative relief to ensure a fair and just investigation.
In closing Dela Rosa has also said that the President has been made aware of the situation and that the primary focus of the Philippine National Police as of the moment is to take care of the victims to ensure their recovery and safety.
