ABU DHABI — Perseverance, more than intelligence, is crucial for students to excel, noted scientist Dr Julio Palmaz told students of the Abu Dhabi Women’s College of Higher Colleges of Technology (ADWC-HCT) here.
Dr Palmaz visited the ADWC-HCT on Sunday.
Dr Palmaz is the inventor of ‘Palmaz Stent’, considered one of the 10 patents that have changed the world.
Dr Palmaz’s invention is now used worldwide. The medical device is implanted, without invasive surgery, in nearly 2 million patients a year, and is credited with drastically reducing the number of open heart surgeries performed and saving countless lives.
During his meeting with ADWC students, he told them that they must persist with their studies, even in the face of difficulties. Noting that he faced years of rejection in developing his world-changing invention, he said, “I have always considered myself to be of average intelligence, but perhaps I have above-average perseverance.”
Dr Brad Cook, Director of ADWC, said they were honoured to have Dr Palmaz visiting the college.
