Philippine Consul-General Antonio S. Curameng said the decision to move to a new location was prompted by many reasons. "First was security concerns. The current PCG office in Hamriya is in a residential area that has a narrow road. In an emergency or a fire incident, we would only safe exit," he said.

The consul-general added that the villa where the PCG is currently housed has also been experiencing a number of technical problems lately, with the power supply being interrupted too often due to old electrical wirings. "With the volume of workload that we have to attend to, we cannot afford to have our work disrupted by such problems," Curameng said.

On the other hand, the newly-constructed and spacious villa near Beirut Street in Al Ghusais is more accessible to members of the Filipino community.
