‘Pay your lawyers their due’

DUBAI — The Dubai Preliminary Court has ordered Moetassim Wadie to pay Dh80,000 as advocate fees to the attorney who represented him in two cases.

According to the case history, Wadie had an agreement with the attorney to represent him in two cases before the preliminary court, but refrained from paying him the due amount despite repeated requests from the attorney's office.

The verdict pointed to the stipulation that the debtor, on his part, should prove that the debt was not paid, while the accused should prove otherwise.

However, since the accused did not submit any proof that the fees had been paid by him, the court ruled that the accused pay Dh80,000 which represented the fees due to the attorney for representing the defendant in two cases.
