Trivandrum: Campaign for the Assembly polls to be held in Kerala early next year will begin with a community outfit of lower caste Hindus and the youth body of the opposition Communist Party of India (Marxist) launching state-wide marches from Monday and the Congress from January 4.
The Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam, which represents the Ezhava community, will be launching the vehicular march, 'Dharma Raksha Yatra', from the state's northern tip of Kasaragod with the objective of floating a third front in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), the youth wing of the CPI (M), is launching their march named 'Kerala Secular Yatra' from northern and southern tips of the state to counter the BJP-SNDP alliance politically and ideologically. Both the SNDP and the DYFI marches will conclude on December 5 at Trivandrum and Cochin respectively.
The Congress march to be taken out from Kasargod to Trivandrum by Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president V M Sudheeran is against the "communal and fascist" polices of the BJP as well as the 'politics of violence' being pursued by the CPI (M). It will culminate at Trivandrum on February 9.
Political observers are attaching importance to the SNDP march to be led by general secretary Vellappally Natesan as it will culminate in the formation of a political party.
