DUBAI — The Ministry of Education (MoE) is planning to set up a special committee to visit public and private Arabic schools to randomly collect Mathematics question papers of Class XII first semester exams, as well as the answer sheets of students, sources at the MoE said.
The move follows complaints by a large number of students and parents that the Maths question paper was too difficult. Even some teachers were reported to have found the question paper difficult.
Students and parents have also complained of discrepancies in the evaluation of the answer sheets.
The first semester exams of Class XII students concluded on December 12 last.
The source said that the move aimed at ensuring that the rules governing marking and revising of answer sheets of examinees were not breached.
No school will be excluded from the inspections, including Model, Future, and private schools, the source said.
“The MoE is not yet sure if the discrepancies in evaluation was deliberate,” the source said, adding that the committee will ensure that the teachers who evaluate the answer papers are committed to integrity and are fair while discharging their duty,” the source noted. It was alleged that a number of private schools had instructed their teachers to be lenient in giving marks, the source said.
