ABU DHABI — Samples of the painkiller 'Panadol' suspected of being counterfeit have tested negative, Dr Issa bin Jakkha Al Mansouri, Director of the DCD, told Khaleej Times yesterday. He said five batches of Panadol samples underwent laboratory analysis and test results were negative for any kind of counterfeit substance. "The pain killer alleged to be fake was original," he said.

Health authorities have been investigating since early this month a complaint of a Panadol local distributor that some small groceries sell stocks of the painkiller at reduced prices and alleged that they were fake. The distributor said the groceries had not bought the pain reliver from them, while their purchase price was reduced below the market rate. This had aroused his suspicions as to the origin of the drug. "The tests conducted by the main manufacturer abroad also proved the same,'' disclosed the distributor.
