Pakistani expats mark 54th Defence Day

The Embassy of Pakistan in Abu Dhabi marked the 54th Pakistan Defence Day reminiscing the sacrifices made by soldiers in defending its borders. Following the decision of the Pakistan Government, the embassy commemorated the day as 'Kashmir Solidarity Day'.
Ghulam Dastgir, Pakistan Ambassador to the UAE, said it is an important day for the country and the people. "We believe that 54 years back, on this day, Pakistan succeeded to defend its territorial integrity. Armed forces played an important role in defending the country. We observe this day to pay tribute to the war martyrs who laid their lives for the country," he told Khaleej Times.
"It is important to remember that issues need to be tackled through peaceful means. The new government in Pakistan aims to resolve all long-standing issues through meaningful dialogues."
He added that the voice of Kashmiris should not be silenced and that they should be deprived of their right to self-determination.
The ambassador said the expat community shouldn't forget the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces for the safety and security of the country. "This day is a reminder for them to pay respect to the war martyrs." He underlined that the Pakistan shares a strong and close ties with the UAE. "We appreciate the role of the UAE leaders in promoting peace in the region. It's my endeavour to further strengthen bilateral relations."
