With effect from today, the consulate will process outpasses without requiring the illegal Pakistani residents to present an original document to prove their Pakistani nationality, the source said.

Earlier, Pakistani nationals staying illegally in the UAE were required to present at the Pakistani missions at least one original document - birth certificate, driving licence, passport, domicile certificate, identity card, etc. - while applying for outpasses.

The source further said that the applicants would be cross-examined by officials and if found to be of Pakistani origin they would be given outpasses.

Though yesterday was officially the last day for all illegal Pakistani immigrants to apply for outpasses, the missions are still processing applications to help overstayers. The consulate general in Dubai has issued 7,800 outpasses since the amnesty period began while a large number of applications are being dealt with on a daily basis.
