Paediatric sub specialty clinics launched in Al Ain

AL AIN - The Al Ain Hospital has launched six new paediatric sub specialty clinics focussing on asthma, nephrology and urology, diabetes, obesity, adolescence and well baby care.

“With the launch of these sub specialty clinics we intend to meet the ongoing needs of the community. Children are the future, and providing them world class healthcare early on is very important for nurturing a healthy populace,” said George Jepson, CEO of Al Ain Hospital.

“Efficient prevention, based on continuous education and increasing awareness, is the key phrase. In all six paediatric subspecialty clinics we are focusing a lot on these,” said Prof. Andreas Boeck, chairman of the Child Health Institute at Al Ain Hospital and initiator of the programme.

A Press release said the clinics will function at Al Ain Hospital and its Family Clinical Centres. Al Ain Hospital is owned and operated by Abu Dhabi Health Services company (SEHA) which is responsible for all curative activities of the public hospitals and clinics of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Asthma experts Dr Matouk Zbaeda and Dr Khalid Kakish said there is a high incidence of asthma in the UAE which causes morbidity, school absences, hospital visits and occasional mortality. Prof. Boeck said the dedicated specialised and interdisciplinary Paediatric Asthma Clinics would address this urgent problem.

The release said as part of the sub specialty clinic initiative, Al Ain Hospital’s multidisciplinary paediatric diabetic clinic, comprising a consultant paediatrician, diabetic educator, dietician and psychologist, will treat children with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes mellitus. Type 1 diabetes is one of the most common chronic diseases of childhood and adolescence.

“It’s a multi task challenge and needs close cooperation of all involved: paediatricians, nutritionists and psychologists” said Prof. Boeck.
