Who flee their homes and towns only to lead a harsh existance as refugees. Anticipating a humanitarian tragedy as a result of the war on Iraq, UAE-based songwriter and composer, Andy Mc Tiernan, is working on setting up a benefit concert in Dubai to raise millions of dollars in humanitarian aid for Iraq.

Mr Mc Tiernan, a veteran of the 1960s anti-war movement in the UK, also wrote a song for the occasion which he called Futures. The song reflects his disillusionment with the politicians of his country and those of the United States.

Mr Mc Tiernan aims to invite high-profile pop music icons from Ireland and the UK to perform at the concert. Among those he hopes will accept the invitation are George Michael, Van Morrison and Bono from U2.

"I decided some time ago to put on a concert with local musicians because we knew the US and Britain would ignore the UN and attack. We tried to set up an organisation to represent people from all over the world who are saying no to the use of force," Mr Mc Tiernan told Khaleej Times in Sharjah on Saturday.

The World Peace Organisation, currently based in the penthouse of Burj 2000 in Sharjah, was set up by Mr Mc Tiernan along with film producer, Steven Prendergast and equestrian expert Jacquie Jones.

Their aim is to raise money for the tragic human casualties of war. The UN has said it would need to raise $27.5 million in humanitarian aid in order to sustain Iraqi refugees for between six to eight weeks. So far they have received $7.5 million.

"This war is a purely political plan to take over Iraq regardless of worldwide objection. Everyone in the UK, including my colleagues in the music industry, find this very distressing.

The song Futures admonishes how politics decides the fate of nations.

"No one country can be allowed to be a world policeman... The US believes that everyone wants what it wants. The UAE is a great model of peaceful coexistance between peoples of diverse backgrounds and nationalities," Mr Mc Tiernan said.
