“The Foundation launched Takatof (shoulder to shoulder) initiative, recently, which is a unique initiative to develop the spirit of volunteering among young Emiratis,” Al Sayegh said here.

He was addressing the media after receiving Dh25 million donation from Etisalat. The amount will be spent on social welfare services being rendered by the NGO.

Al Sayegh said the Emirates Foundation is working in four core areas — education, research and development, arts and culture and social and economic development.

“Over 1,000 young people have already signed up, and have been taking part in such useful projects as school renovation in Fujairah, hospital social work, the diabetes awareness pavilion in the Abu Dhabi Marina Mall. This is just the beginning,” he said.

Etisalat Chief Executive Officer Mohammed Khalfan Al Qamzi applauded the services of the Foundation. He said: “The Emirates Foundation is an important organisation and we applaud the vision of our rulers in establishing such a worthy institution. We pledge our full support to the organisation, going far beyond the financial donation we are announcing today. We are proud to stand side-by-side with the UAE government, in terms of objectives and values, to support projects which promote the continuing advancement of our nation.”
