Over a 100 children will participate in the fourth Union National Bank UAE Open junior squash championships at the India Social and Cultural Centre (ISC), Abu Dhabi from May 27 to June 3.
The event is open to junior players in the UAE without restrictions on the number of entries to the various categories.
The centre, one of the biggest recreation venues in the region, has a modern squash facility that can accommodate nearly 100 spectators. The courts are also used during the Abu Dhabi Squash League under the approval and guidance of the UAE Squash Association and thae Abu Dhabi Squash Racquets Association.
The UAE Open junior tournament will have six categories - under 10 years (mixed); boys singles - under 13; boys singles - under 16; girls singles - under 13; girls singles - under 16; and boys - under 19.
In the previous chapter, Mohammed Yousef won the under 10 (mixed) event while Momen Ismail Mohammed landed a double, winning the boys under 13 and 16 crowns. Promising local talent Naoumi Nohar lifted the girls under 13 title, and the girls under 16 honours went to Mariam Farauk.
"ISC Abu Dhabi successfully conducted the tournament last year which received tremendous response resulting high quality of squash being played. Taking the momentum forward, ISC Abu Dhabi is now organising the Open Tournament which is a benchmark for such tournaments in the UAE," said Thomas Varghese, the honorary president, ISC-Abu Dhabi.
