The DED Deputy Director-General, Hamad Al Shamsi, said all commercial outlets in the emirate are supposed to paste officially stamped copies of price lists at their premises with immediate effect.
"Outlets that fail to comply would face tough penalties and legal action," he added.
He urged all commercial outlets to submit their price lists to the department for review and approval.
Al Shamsi said inspectors would conduct regular checks to ensure total compliance and added that the move is aimed at protecting consumers' rights.
The department had recently received complaints of price hikes which the traders claim to have done with the department's approval.
Al Shamsi said traders would not be allowed to exploit the consumers urged the customers to get receipts of the purchased items, clearly stating the prices which would act as proof, in case of disputes.
