Organ Transplant Norms Require Update: Minister

ABU DHABI - The UAE needs to update working health policies to go ahead regarding organ transplantation, Health Minister Dr Hanif Hassan has said.

Speaking at the first meeting of the UAE National Committee for Organ Transplantation, the minister said, “The issue of organ transplantation is one of the important issues that we should lend special care given its positive results in saving lives of many patients who are seeking treatment through these sensitive surgeries which are now being conducted with high rates of success worldwide.

He added that the health laws and regulations issued by the ministry of health in a record time underline UAE’s determination to introduce legislations and systems that upgrade the health sector and achieve transparency, clarity and credibility as well as equality in access to medical services.

“The wise UAE leadership highlights the importance of considering every methods that deliver sound, safe healthy life to both citizens and residents,” he stressed.

In its first meeting since its was founded this year, the committee looked into several laws on organ transplantation in some countries and guidelines and principles about organ transplantation in the GCC.

The Declaration of Istanbul on Organ Trafficking and Transplant Tourism was also reviewed.
