Onam fete concludes

SHARJAH - The 'Onam Celebration 2003', organised by the Sharjah Indian Association at the Sharjah Indian School premises to commemorate the harvest festival of Kerala, came to an end yesterday.

The celebration was officially inaugurated on September 11 by Aloke Singh, Country Manager of Indian Airlines, and featured a number of activities such as the ganamela performed by well known playback singers.

During the ceremony the chief guest and other officials were received with traditional Thalappoli, Pulikalli and Vadyamelam. Y.K. Sinha, Indian Consul-General to Dubai, was the chief guest at the function. Felicitation speeches were delivered by R.C Kathuria, Regional Manager of Indian Airlines and Aloke Singh, Country Manager of Indian Airlines. A grand buffet was served to 7,000 people who attended the celebration.

'Pooklam' a floral arrangement ladies competition was held on the same day of Onam Celebration where eight women groups participated in the competition.
