Court records showed that police were tipped off that Saeed Khalfan, an Omani citizen, had been frequently visiting Fujairah bringing hashish in his vehicle. A trap was laid by the police in the areas frequented by the suspect. Police kept a watch on him when he visited to meet his friends.

When the suspect felt that a trap had been laid out for him to catch him, he fled the place. But he was chased by the policemen and was arrested. Police recovered drugs from his possession. A sample of his urine was tested at the forensic laboratory and the results showed that he was consuming drugs. He was referred to the Public Prosecution, which accused him of trafficking and taking drugs. The court sentenced him to life imprisonment for smuggling and four years for drug abuse, bringing the jail term to a total of 29 years.
