Officials keep tab on ‘unusual’ bank transactions
In a bid to curb misuse of money during the Lok Sabha elections, poll officials in Gujarat have not only begun intercepting vehicles to check movement of cold cash but expenditure monitoring officers appointed by the state’s chief electoral officer Anita Karwal are now also scanning bank transactions everyday.
All banks in the city have been told to file a daily report after tracking ‘unusual activity’ in accounts and screening ‘suspicious’ transactions like sudden withdrawal of Rs1 million or more. The income-tax department will be informed about these cash transfers for further action.
