Number plates auction garners record revenue

DUBAI — The total proceeds of the 56th Distinguished Number Plates Auction organised by the Licensing Agency at Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on Saturday amounted to Dh40.954 million, setting a new record.

The session witnessed fierce bidding up to the last minute of the auction, which included distinguished 2, 3, 4 and 5-digit number plates of categories E, F and G.

Four double-digit number plates (89, 43, 61 and 78) were subject of an unprecedented competition between bidders.

Number plates 43 and 61 of Category G topped the list and each of them was sold for Dh2.3 million, followed by number plate G78 which was sold for Dh2.24 million. Plate number F89 was sold for Dh2.06 million.

Three-digit number plates 200, 300, 800 and 900 of Category G commanded the attention of bidders and fetched total proceeds of Dh4.09 million topped by the number plate 200, which was sold for Dh1.2 million, followed by the number plate 800 which was sold for Dh990,000.

The number plate 300 was sold for Dh970,000 and the number plate 900 which was sold for Dh930,000.

Bidders then shifted attention to three-digit number plates 110, 220, 330, 440 and 550 of Category G, and the total proceeds reached Dh 2.96 million, topped by the number plate 110 sold for Dh850,000 followed by the number plate 550 sold for Dh800,000.

The number plate 220 sold for Dh460,000 and the number plate 440 sold for Dh 430,000. Equal interest was shown by bidders in the number plates 113, 114 and 115 of Category F which fetched a total amount of Dh4.52 million.

The number plate 113 sold for Dh600,000 followed by the number plate 115 for Dh555,000.

When it came to the four-digit numbers 1000, 2000, 3000, 2020, 3030, 4040, 8800 and 9900 of Category G, bidders raised their paddles high in intensive competition lifting the total proceeds of the group to Dh5.43 million led by the number 1000 sold for Dh1.05 million.
