The total value of the bids at the auction of special number plates for vehicles stood at Dh41.8 million.

A bidder offered Dh3.15 for number 24 while another paid Dh2.9 million for number 80.

Numbers 56, 91 and 77777 were sold for Dh2.050 million, Dh2 million and Dh1.2 million, respectively.

Al Sir Mohammed Abdul Rahim, a Sudanese, won the bid for number 377 for Dh350,000.

Al Sir, an owner of a real estate office in Abu Dhabi, told Khaleej Times that he had bought the number as an investment. "In a previous auction, I bought a number for Dh60,000 and sold it for Dh120,000. The business of number plates is profitable," he added.
