Abu Dhabi residents have shown great interest in the new application that allows people to directly report crimes or suspicious acts to the public prosecution and also file complaints.
The Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution said on Wednesday that about 2,231 people have so far downloaded the new app 'Inform the Prosecution,' on their mobile phones in a period of only three days since the new service was launched.
According to the prosecution department, 1,730 people have downloaded the app on iPhones while 501 via the Android system. As many as 132 posts including legal inquiries have also been made to the public prosecutors through the 'Inform the Prosecution' app.
The new app, which allows members of the public to report any illegal act or provide information about suspicious activities or behaviour, was launched on Sunday.
Ali Mohammed Al Baloushi, attorney-general of Abu Dhabi, said the application is part of the public prosecution's commitment to harnessing advanced technology to deliver high-quality judicial services.
"The application seeks to increase communication between the community and the judiciary through modern technology, in a way that preserves community security, as part of our corporate social responsibility programmes.
"Security and stability in the community can only be maintained through joint efforts by both individuals and institutions, each in his position," he stated.
Hassan Al Hammadi, director of the Prosecutions Department, said the app is available in both Arabic and English languages.
"Through the application, the user can explain the illegal act, its location and time of happening, and attach an evidence - a photo, video or voice clip - and then send it to the Public Prosecution," Al Hammadi said, noting that providing the identity of the sender is optional.
"A number for the e-notification will be sent to the sender's mobile phone through a text message, following which legal procedures will be initiated," he explained.
Al Hammadi said though they have received several inquiries from people using the new app about some cases in court and at public prosecution in the past days, he clarified that the app is not meant for enquiries but only to report crimes and suspected crimes or for reporting complaints.
The public has been told to call 8002353 in case of legal enquiries.
