The Green Spine, designed by URB in collaboration with EPIC Lab, promises to redefine urban mobility through 100 per cent solar-powered trams and eco-conscious infrastructure
The Alliance Francaise here is organising a jazz evening featuring Paul-Marie Barbier Trio.
The concert will take place on February 22, from 8 pm, at the Hiltonia Gardens — Hilton Abu Dhabi.
The trio, featuring Paul-Marie Barbier at vibraphone, Pierre Kamlo Barre at guitar and Mathieu Bloch at double bass, is on a Gulf tour, which also includes concerts in Dubai, Doha and Muscat, to promote Paul-Marie Barbier’s first CD, “Season1”.
The music is a mixture of takes on classical jazz pieces such as Thelonious Monk’s Teo, Miles Davis’s Blue in Green, John Coltrane’s Lazy Bird, and funkier compositions like Django Reinhardt’ Hungaria or Vladimir Kosma’ Habanera. “Season 1” also includes two compositions by Barre, Carretera De Canillas and Back from Morocco.
Although they play in this formation for the first time, the musicians are not unknown to each other. Since 2002, Paul-Marie Barbier has been playing with Barre, in his Kamlo Quartet, developing a particular tone, stemming from the blend of resonance of their respective instruments, particularly the vibraphone, which is not a “classical” jazz instrument.
However, Barbier later decided to build his own music along with the double bass player, Mathieu Bloch. They recorded together, in February 2007, their first disc, “Saison 1”, which was released in France last December.
Tracks from this CD, which also includes a remix of original movies’ soundtracks, will be performed by the trio during their Gulf tour.
