“I am living in Al Khaja apartments located behind BurJuman centre. The activities going on nearby throughout daytime and during the nights is causing noise pollution unbearable for us to cope with.

“The noise is so loud and jarring that people in the neighbourhood are finding difficulty in sleeping peacefully through the night.

“The civic body should take some action to stop the construction work during night time,” he pleaded.

WHEN Khaleej Times contacted an official at Dubai Municipality, he said: “We have set a standard for noise levels at the construction sites to avoid any inconvenience to the residents. According to the rule, the continuous sound level should not exceed 55 decibels level during the period 7am to 8pm and 45 decibels level during 8pm to 7am.”

“If any resident is facing problems due to the noise on account of construction activities carried out at night, they can call the Municipality emergency number — 2232323 —and stringent action will be taken,” he assured.

Tenant struggles to renew contract

PRADEEP Kumar said that he has been living in a building in Abu Dhabi since past nine years. “My tenancy contract ends on August 23. So the last time I went to the Khalifa Committee to renew the contract, I was informed that the building is now under ADCB bank and so will have to approach them in future. I contacted the bank but I was told to meet the officials to discuss the matter only when the contract was about to end.

But, after a few days, I received a letter from the bank stating that the building was now under ASTECO Properties and therefore, will have to now approach them for the renewal of contract. When I visited ASTECO office, they said not to worry and pay the rent amount to the ADCB bank.

“I was very happy that my problem was finally resolved. But, this was not the end of my problem,” he complained disclosing that ASTECO Properties sent a letter to him stating that his contract was expiring and that they will be allowed to stay in the apartment for one more month after which it should be vacated.

A Khalifa Committee source said that since the buildings managed by the committee, are being handed over to the private landlords, and many of them are hiring specialised property management companies to offer the required services, hence all new agreements will be dealt with by the respective companies, according to market supply and demand situation.

All the tenants have to follow the rules. It is upto that particular landlord or company to continue or discontine with the tenancy contract.

Fined despite parking ticket!

MANAR, a resident of Dubai complained that his father was fined because he parked his car in A grade car parking area without knowing that he had to use A grade coupon.

“He took the regular coupon from the machine and displayed it on the dash board of the car and briefly visited the Baqer Mohebi Super Market in Bur Dubai for shopping. But when he came back there he was surprised to see that he was fined Dh250 by the parking inspector.

“When he asked the inspector he was informed that the fine was slapped on him because he had parked in A grade parking lot and that the coupon placed on the dashboard was that for B grade parking space.”

AN OFFICIAL from RTA said: “Actually there is no A grade or B grade parking lots. Some parking lots we charge Dh1 for one hour and some place we charge Dh2 for one hour.

“It is written on the machine clearly that which area the user should pay Dh2 or Dh 1.

“It is the duty of the user to read the instructions on the parking machine and abide by it. If anybody says that they did not see the instructions — it is not an excuse to violate the law,” the official added.
