Al Kaabi, however, clarified that there was no proposal for implementing a minimum wage for workers in the UAE.

The minister’s comment comes in the backdrop of the final stages of drafting of the new labour law.

“We are not in a hurry. We are studying every Article carefully so as to ensure that the new law balances the employer-employee relations perfectly,” said the minister.

Al Kaabi said the new law would stress on payment of salaries on time in addition to providing “suitable and healthy” accommodation to workers.
