Sharjah Police said that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances of the accident
The move followed complaints by some residents who claimed that some workers at the abattoirs were utilising the high demand for meat during the month of Ramadan to charge them extra fees for slaughtering animals.
Mubarak Ali Al Shamsi, Chairman, RAK Municipality said the fee has remained the same at Dh15 for sheep or goat, Dh40 for a calf and young camel, and Dh60 for a cow and big camel.
He noted that despite an increase in the number of animals being slaughtered at the abattoir daily during Ramadan, no person is supposed to charge customers extra fee above the fixed rate. Shamsi said since the beginning of Ramadan, working hours at the RAK unit which is the only operating public abattoir in the emirate at present, was increased from morning to late evening to cope with the growing demand for meat.
The municipality has also assured that the abattoir is well prepared and equipped to accommodate a number of different animals.
The municipal officials have urged residents to ensure that they slaughter all animals at the municipal abattoir and warned of fines ranging from Dh5,000 to Dh20,000 on those caught slaughtering animals at their homes or outside the abattoir.
