Residents recently expressed concern that with companies forced to deliver the bottled water to consumers directly, water companies would take advantage of the situation and raise the price of five-gallon water bottles.
The companies were authorised to directly distribute water after the Sharjah Municipality banned groceries from selling five-gallon water bottles to consumers.
Yassir, an official of the Oasis Water Distribution Company, said his company was not planning to increase the price of the five-gallon bottles of water which they sell for Dh7 per bottle.
Following the civic body’s decision, the demand for five-gallon water bottles has increased by more than 50 per cent and the company is making great efforts to meet the demand in Sharjah.
An official from Massafi said the company will start distributing five-gallon water bottles from June and will follow the market price.
Haji Al Hajri, Director General of Zulal Water Company, said his company is not planning to increase the price of the five- gallon water bottles despite the fact that the company sells a bottle for Dh5 whereas other companies sell it for Dh7-8.
