No admission: School director is pulled up

UMM AL QUWAIN — A director of Al Narjes Kindergarten at Al Salma area has been pulled up for refusing admission to some children from Al Ramla area, Obeid Al Qaoud. The Director of the Umm Al Quwain Education Zone yesterday issued a circular specifying five areas where children can be enrolled at the Al Narjes Kindergarten. The areas — Sanayia, Al Ramla, Al Salma, Al Sura and Muhdab — were selected for their proximity to the Al Narjes Kindergarten.

The zone administration has agreed with the Emirates Transport Corporation, Umm Al Quwain — which offers its services to the people of these areas — to carry their children to the Al Narjes Kindergarten. In case parents want to enrol their children in another kindergarten inside the city, buses are not obliged to take them to and from that kindergarten. The educational zone administration had received, over the past few days, many complaints from the citizens of Al Ramla about the kindergarten director’s refusal to register their children without any justification. She claimed that she had shortage of teachers, while another kindergarten (Al Amwaj, about 13km away from those residential areas) was overstaffed. The Ministry of Education considered the director of the kindergarten’s act of rejecting students as violating the ministerial resolution on the mandatory enrolment of children in the nearest kindergarten of their residential complex. In response to her obstinacy, the education zone stepped in, arguing that her excuse of shortage of teachers is not her business as the zone is responsible to fill that gap.

It was revealed that there were some kindergartens who have four reserve teachers without any schedule, whereas Al Narjes has not actually had any, and the zone is on the process of distributing each of them so they can take a schedule. The director of the educational zone has urged all departments to cooperate with the zone as it serves the interest of the country and the emirate.
