Weinstein is serving a 16-year sentence after being convicted on rape charges by a California court
Spelling out designated speed limit, Lt. Colonel Khamis Ishag, Acting Director Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, said motorists should not travel at more than 160kmph on Abu Dhabi-Seih Shuaib road from Sas Al Nakheel and the road lying between the Mussafah and Maqta bridges to Al Ain City.
"The Arabian Gulf Street (Beach Street or Parade Stand) is not classified as an external highway in which speed should not cross 120kmph,'' he noted.
The speed limit on the Shawamekh roundabout (Abu Dhabi International Airport) to Al Heir in Al Ain through Suweihan and the road between Suweihan and Al Sad is set at 160kmph, he said. The Al Maqam-Al Saliemat in Al Ain is also excluded from the external highway network but the speed-limit on it is at 120kmph, he added.
"There is no additional margin before motorists to travel beyond the maximum speed limit and electronic monitoring sets and traffic patrols roaming these roads will book offending motorists regardless of the off-limit speed," underlined the official.
He appealed to motorists to drive with a sense of responsibility to avoid traffic accidents caused by excessive speed
and flouting of road discipline and overtaking on the shoulder. "Motorists should exercise utmost vigilance and anticipate mistakes from others so as to be ready for unexpected surprises. This will raise the safety levels on external highways," he advised.
Lt. Colonel Ishag also urged motorists travelling on highways to commit themselves to the speed limit and traffic signals.
"Those driving late at night and during early morning hours should observe maximum caution as visibility at these times is low, increasing the risk of accidents," he said.
Motorists should check air pressure of tyres, engine safety and lights before hitting the road, he added.
