DUBAI — This amnesty-seeker is probably different! Despite bad luck chasing him since the time he arrived in Dubai on February 16, Nigerian Edwin Ugochuwu is determined to make it big in this dream city, some day.

After landing in Dubai, he began his search for a marketing job. But his efforts bore no fruits. Then arose another problem. He had to vacate his apartment.

“I was one of the bachelors who were evicted by the municipality from their places in Hamiriya in March. I was in a total mess as the eviction notice given to me was very short. I packed my stuff and I don’t know how and where I lost my passport. I searched for it desperately but in vain,” he says.

Ugochuwu further adds, “My visit visa expired in April and I could not renew it. My act was maybe out of carelessness or fear that I might be detained. I feel grateful, though, to the UAE authorities for announcing amnesty which is a blessing for me.”

The Nigerian young man is keeping his fingers crossed, but is hopeful of returning to Dubai to set up business some day. “I am sick of living as illegal in this country. I am sure that there are plenty of job opportunities here. It is true that I was not that lucky. I know I will be back in Dubai one day. I will return not as a job-seeker, but as a dealer,” he says with confidence. “I have my plans set to start a business of electronics in my country and I will come to Dubai to explore ways of promoting my merchandise. The amnesty is the door that would open for me other windows.”
