ABU DHABI - The Abu Dhabi Knee and Sports Medicine Centre (ADKSMC), set up by Mubadala Development Company (Mubadala), is about to embark on the second phase in its development under which the specialist centre will relocate to a new, state-of-the-art 45-bed facility in Zayed Sports City in 2009.

The centre is now operating from a temporary facility and the new facility would be a full-fledged specialty hospital.

The ADKSMC is the first healthcare facility in the Middle East to specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with knee and sports-related injuries. Knee injuries are one of the most common musculoskeletal problems experienced in the region and there has been significant demand from police, military personnel, sportspersons and the general public for the clinical expertise offered by its team of internationally renowned physicians.

In 2007, the ADKSMC conducted over 570 surgical procedures. Due to its operational success, there has been a great demand for the centre to expand. Plans are now under way to move into a new building to accommodate Phase II of the project, a Press release from the centre said yesterday.

The facility forms part of Mubadala Healthcare’s integrated healthcare delivery network of general and multi-specialty hospitals, specialty centres of excellence, clinical support services and primary care/GP clinics that will be linked by state-of-the-art IT systems and technologies to provide a seamless and high-quality patient experience.
