The awards will be organised to support young artists and enable them to showcase their works. The ‘New Signature’ art contest was initiated in 2006 by Her Highness Shaikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, wife of Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Presidential Affairs. Shaikha Manal is also the president of the Dubai Women Establishment.
“The remarkable successes achieved last year prompted us to work on improving the content and to add new categories. This will open up new opportunities for young artists from different streams and encourage them to participate in the second season,” said Mona bint Kalli, DLC events manager.
The ‘New Signature’ art contest adopts a high level of transparency and objectivity.
The judges’ panel includes prominent figures from the world of art, art experts and educators from recognised global institutions. This year, the judges will include three international experts — William Lawrie from the United Kingdom, Kimberley Lund from the United States, and Khalid Samawi from Syria. In addition, there will be two judges from the UAE — Dr Najat Makki, and Jassem Al Awadhi.
The Art and Talent Centre at DLC will accept registration and artwork from October 20 to December 27.
The contest is open to artists aged 18 to 30 years.
They are invited to submit one sample artwork for each of the three main categories: fine arts, multimedia and photography.
Artworks should not have been showcased earlier at any public forum, and must be ready for immediate display.
The winners of each category will be awarded Dh30,000.
