“The map project is considered a dynamic one featuring various crucial information regarding the emirate of Sharjah such as its location and the routes to reach the tourist destinations.

“The main roads and the various residential areas of the emirate are also highlighted on the map,” said Dr Engineer Obaid Abdulla Al Tunaiji, Director General of STPSD. The production of the map is the conclusion of a naming and numbering project implemented by the directorate.

“Each area, whether commercial or residential, is marked with a different colour — for example, yellow marks residential areas, orange commercial areas and purple industrial areas.

Red is for hospitals and clinics, blue for schools and universities, pink for shopping malls and green for the beautiful parks and gardens that dot the emirates,” Dr Al Tunaiji said.

The main locations of the petrol stations, car parkings and the road numbers are also marked on the handy map, he said.

Engineer Salah bin Butti, the Head of the Public Services Administration at the STPSD, said the guidance map features a directory on the major roads in the emirate, airport, government departments, schools, hotels and furnished apartments.

The guidance map will also contain the emirate’s history, information on its location, weather and pictures of the tourist destinations in the emirate. Engineer Butti said the map will be available on a CD also.

“The CD will be of great benefit for motorists, who want to reach a place he is not familiar with. The map will also be available on a searchable web site we are currently working on.

“By simply entering the desired road name or number, it will be possible for anybody to find out more about the desired road or any other location.”

The CDs will also be available in the market soon.
