But a meeting of the customised car number committee chaired by Brigadier Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, Director of Dubai Traffic Police Department, also offered several 4-digit and 5-digit numbers for sale at their base value without having to be part of an auction, it was announced yesterday.

“These numbers will be included in lists and we will see how popular they would be. However, these numbers would not be dispensed with until after Eid Al Fitr holidays,” said Brig. Al Zafeen.

He said that some of the numbers offered for sale at their base value were offered in the past. The value does not exceed Dh1,000 for a 4-digit number and some 5-digit numbers. The numbers are not customised, though.

The committee reviewed categories of potential buyers of these numbers, especially those which can be read in the same way from both sides, or numbers that have identical first and second numbers, and also those in which the three digits in a five-digit number are the same.

The November 25 auction, said Brig. Al Zafeen, will include customised 2, 3, 4 and 5-digit numbers of the E code. He expected that the November 25 auction will be as successful as the previous one that fetched double the amount of the base value.

The committee also approved holding low-base value car number auctions every Wednesday, starting after the Eid Al Fitr holidays. In June, weekly auctions of low-base value car numbers of that season were closed, with the latest selection of 56 distinguished numbers fetching more than Dh1.5 million.

The previous auction, the fist after a two-month summer lull, fetched some Dh18.3 million, with two numbers bringing in a combined value of around Dh2.5 million.
