The helicopter service, being promoted by the Dubai-based destination management company Alpha Tours in partnership with Falcon Aviation Services (FAS) of Abu Dhabi, targets the upscale tourism market as well as corporate clientele in the UAE.

Ghassan Aridi, chief executive officer of Alpha Tours, said the new service will provide additional value and features to the existing inbound tour packages they are currently offering.

“At the moment there are just three companies specialising in this particular aviation service. The industry is relatively untapped and we believe we can get about 60 per cent share of the high-end tourism market with FAS’s modern fleet and service,” he said.

As an introductory offer, Alpha Tours unveiled a special summer promotion of Dh3,999 per trip for a maximum of six passengers touring Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Other city tour packages are priced at Dh5,640 for 45 minutes and Dh7,200 for 60 minutes, all for a group of six passengers and valid from July 15 to October 15.

The current average industry rate for this service ranges from Dh4,800 to Dh6,700 per trip.

The product has also been made available to provide city shuttle service and quick transfers between Dubai and Abu Dhabi (and vice versa) for business customers.

Banking on the booming construction and tourism sectors in both emirates, the luxury service is considered to provide a new and unique tourism experience from mid-air. Trips to The Palms and The World on board an air-conditioned and sound-proof cabin will be some of the highlights of the helicopter ride.

Meanwhile, Salem Al Kayoumi, FAS chairman, mentioned that the demand for ‘air taxis’ is expected to increase in the next couple of years both for tourism and corporate sectors. “The business community has taken note of how fast and efficient this service is when commuting from one place to another,” he pointed out.
