The new system will electronically link patients suffering from diabetes and heart diseases and other serious ailments to hospitals to receive quick and early diagnosis.
Speaking to Khaleej Times yesterday, Dr Dr Abdul Karim Al Zarouni, Director of the Curative Medicine Department at the ministry and Chairman of the Aid and Rescue Committee, explained that to have such a facility a patient has to subscribe to the service.
"With the introduction of the new system, patients would only have to dial a certain number on a device given to him/her by the hospital whenever he/she develops abnormal symptoms," said Dr Zarouni.
Hospital ambulances will be sent to transfer the patients to the hospital as soon as they dial their number. This device will be connected to the hospital where medical information about each patient is saved in a computer disc, said Dr Zarouni. He said the implementation of the system requires setting up of a centre and electronically linking it to hospitals. The new system comes as part of the ministry's efforts to maintain quality health services. "Efforts are under way to finalise the legal requirements of the new advanced project," said Dr Zarouni.
