A council for improving the quality of residents' digital life will be set up in the UAE, the Cabinet announced on Sunday. Taking to Twitter, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said the new council will be responsible for protecting the "digital environment" in the country.
"The council will protect our children, who spend many hours daily in the digital environment," he tweeted.
The National Council for Quality of Digital Life will monitor the implementation of policies and programmes in this regard. It will raise awareness about safe digital practices and encourage the community to use technology for good. It will review all the existing regulations and prepare a study based on recommendations given by multiple entities.
The study will review the laws implemented across the country and develop initiatives and programmes to improve the quality of digital life.
The Cabinet also approved a National Council for Quality of Life. The council will unify policies, programmes and strategies related to enhancing residents' quality of life. It will have members from local and federal government entities and from the private sector.
Charting the next 50 years
Sheikh Mohammed also approved establishing a committee for developing programmes related to the national strategy for the next 50 years. The theme for this year is '2020:
Towards the next 50' - a national strategy to prepare for the coming 50 years on the federal and local level as the country approaches its golden jubilee in 2021. The committee will be chaired by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and The Future, will be the vice-chairman.
A second committee that will be chaired by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, will oversee the grand celebrations for the country's 50th anniversary in 2021.
