"A team of experts working at the IT departments in GCC states is working on the project," said a UAE Interior Ministry official. The team is planning to have the site operational as soon as possible, he added.

Interior ministers in the six-nation bloc had already sanctioned the project and issued instructions to traffic departments to expedite implementation of the move to facilitate the exchange of information and processing of transactions.

"Access to the site will be restricted to traffic police officials authorised to handle such transactions. Traffic department directors in the GCC states will soon agree on the information that needs to be exchanged among member states," said the official.

"The site will contribute to providing many traffic services among GCC states and will help us to get rid of routine procedures that have hindered the exchange of vehicle-related data and driving licences," the official stressed.
