The awards ceremony, held under the patronage of DEC Chairman Ahmed bin Byat, was attended by Dr Abdulla Al Karam, General Secretary of DEC, and other council members in addition to representatives of Road and Transport Authority (RTA), an official sponsor of NIVE, and a representative of Edexcel, the British authority for academic accreditation, as well as sixty students who were granted scholarships.

"As you take your first steps towards your journey of endeavour and determination, I hope this opportunity will encourage you to excel in your study to achieve your dreams and ambitions and participate in the development of your country by your education and hard work," said Bayat in his inaugural speech congratulating the scholarship awardees.

He also thanked the RTA for its continuous support and Edexcel that will work closely with NIVE to develop its curriculum and select faculty.

The Institute will commence its first academic semester in September. With two years to graduate, students will focus on the following disciplines and related training courses: IT, Finance and Accounting, Marketing and Sales, Public Relations, and Human Resources. The Institute will strengthen relationships with companies in need of national students’ skills.
