National crashes against a shovel
RAS AL KHAIMAH — A major accident involving a shovel and two cars took place here yesterday. The horrible drama, which left onlookers speechless, began when a 20-year-old UAE national man, driving at breakneck speed, hit a shovel of RAK Municipality (RM). The driver who lost control over his car, rammed into the street barrier. The car, then, swerved and hit anther car coming from the same direction.
The mishap occurred at around 7 am on RAK-Sharjah Street, near the new premises of RAK Traffic Department (RTD). RAK police personnel rushed to the accident spot and cordoned off the area to get the traffic moving in this crucial artery that links RAK city centre with Al Jazeerah Al Hemrah area and the other emirates.
It took teams from RAK Police Department and RAK Civil Defence Department several hours to remove the badly damaged cars and shovel from the accident site. Rescuers brought the errant speedster, who sustained serious injuries and fractures, to the emergency department of Saqer Hospital. The hospital sources said that the man remained in the ICU for less than an hour before succumbing to his wounds.
