Nahyan okays new enrolment policy

The new policy stipulates that students would be admitted to the faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Sciences, Education, Administration and Economy, Sharya and Law, Food Systems, Engineering, IT, Medicine and Health Sciences in accordance to the university's standards provided that they obtain the UAE Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent certificates.

The decision, taken at the meeting of the University Higher Council, stipulates that the minimum pass degree for admission in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Studies, Sciences, Education, Administration and Economy, Sharya and Law, Food Systems, Engineering, IT is 70 per cent, whereas it is 80 per cent for the Faculty of Medicine and Heath Sciences for UAE nationals.

The decree pointed out that the applicants' Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent should not be more than three years old for enrolment in all faculties and two years for the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, provided that they spend these two years in a medicine-related field. The decision gives the university chancellor the right to exempt some cases on condition that they obtain the requirement minimum pass degree for admission.

The UAE national students who obtain the Vocational Secondary School Certificate in the agricultural, business and industrial fields would be admitted to the equivalent faculties in a one-year probation period, after which they would be admitted or discharged. The expatriate sons of the university staff would be admitted to the different faculties provided they obtain 75 per cent for the Faculty of Humanities and Political Studies, Sciences, Sharya and Law, Education, Food Systems, 85 per cent for the Faculty of Administration and Economy and 90 per cent for the Faculty of Engineering.

Admission in the faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and IT is restricted to the UAE national students. Applicants should at least obtain 70 per cent in two of three subjects mathematics, physics, chemistry and English Language to be enrolled in the Faculty of Engineering.

They also should have minimum 70 per cent in English Language and three subjects of mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology.

Ninety-five per cent of the total number of the seats for admission to the university is reserved for UAE national students and remaining five per cent for expatriates including the AGCC students.
