The evening segment of the events, sponsored by Khaleej Times, got off to a boisterous start at 5pm with the much-acclaimed Singing Contest with youngsters of all age-groups, attired in the funkiest of summer wear thronging the tastefully decorated stage, all hands reaching out to the mike, which the young presenters had a tough time, keeping track off.
Otto, the exceedingly popular Young Times mascot, was in a zone of his own, posing and smiling for pictures at every turn.
The kids just couldn't seem to get their hands of the amiable charmer, with a bunch of them, crying out for him to carry them on-stage, even as he went up to greet the contestants.
However, it was the Musical Chairs segment that took the cake for being the most interactive event of the lot, with plenty of gentle pushes and shoves involved, it was no surprise to see a few spills, every now and then, with the more adventurous members of the audience, 'Ooohing!' and 'Aaahing!' every time the music stopped and there was a jostle, more like a wild rush to get to the empty chairs first.
It was clear from the outset that all the events were pre-conceived to keep the youngsters entertained, as well as 'edutained.'
If you were a mercurial speller, then the Spelling Bee Challenge was your date with destiny, but of course you faced an uphill task with some tough competition from a bunch of supremely determined youngsters who had probably spent an hour too many, at home during these summer holidays!!!
Motor-skills were at a premium for the duration of the event and if you had superlative hand-eye co-ordination, then 'Passing the Parcel' was your best bet to get recognised for your hidden talent at what a majority of the rejuvenated youngsters jargoned as 'throw-catching'!!!
All along, in the background, funky clowns dressed in equally funky outfits kept you entertained with their unbelievable skills at twisting balloons into all sorts of shapes and sizes and the youngsters had a hard time figuring just what the jesters were up to those out-of-the world shapes and contours!
If you thought that all the activities were restricted to the now bustling atrium, then well, you were bound to miss out on the vast assortment of fun activities planed for the food-court.
The incredible Magic Show, the highly amusing face-painting sessions, the girls experimenting with henna, while the macho boys slugged it out in the games arena.
