DUBAI — The annual Kavi Sammelan and Mushaira to mark the Indian Republic Day will be held in Dubai on February 23, according to Syed Salahuddin, chief organiser.
To be held at Shaikh Rashid Auditorium of the Indian High School under the patronage of Y.K. Sinha, Indian Consul-General, the event will be presided over by Indian Ambassador C.M. Bhandari.
Prominent poets and Kavis, including Kunwar Bechain, Bekal Utsahi, Munawwar Rana, Meraj Faizabadi, Kunwar Viswas, Hasan Kazmi, Dr Kalim Qaiser, Dr Suman Dubey, Madan Mohan, Naim Akhtar, Dipti Mishra, Girgit Ahmadabadi, Dr Urfi, Aslam Allahabadi and Adil Sarwar will recite their works at the poetry evening.
“This will be the fourth mushaira to be held in Dubai in connection with the India Republic Day,” Syed Salahuddin said. “The event is a permanent feature of the annual cultural calendar of Dubai.”
He said the event would be telecast by Sahara TV thus taking this colourful poetry evening to millions of viewers around the world. A 150-page souvenir will be published on the occasion carrying write-ups and selected works of participating poets.
Dr Ram Buxani, Khushi Khatwani, Shabbir Tahiri and Dr Akhtar Jahan Malik are members of the board of patrons. Entry to the mushaira and Kavi Sammelan would be through invitation. Organiser can be reached on 050-6506811.
